Flavorful Dishes exists to make home cooking feel approachable, exciting, and totally doable for everyone. I’m Abby, the founder and recipe creator behind this site, and my mission is simple: help you get delicious food on the table without the stress, fancy equipment, or culinary degree.
I believe that cooking should bring joy, not anxiety. Every recipe here is designed to work in a real kitchen, with real ingredients, for real people who have jobs, families, and lives outside the kitchen.
Our Values:
- Accessibility First – Every recipe uses everyday ingredients you can find at any grocery store
- Honest Testing – If it doesn’t work consistently, it doesn’t get published
- Real Results – What you see is what you’ll actually make (no professional styling tricks)
- Community Over Perfection – Your questions, feedback, and kitchen wins matter here
Flavorful Dishes has been helping home cooks since 2019, and in that time we’ve built a community of food lovers across more than 40 countries.
Meet Abby – Founder & Recipe Developer

Hi! I’m Abby, and I’m the person behind every recipe, photo, and piece of advice you’ll find on Flavorful Dishes.
My Background & Expertise
I’ve been developing and testing recipes for six years, creating over 500 original dishes that have been made (and remade) by home cooks around the world. My recipes have been shared more than 2 million times across social media, and I receive dozens of messages each week from readers telling me about their cooking successes.
While I’m not a professionally trained chef, I’ve spent thousands of hours in my kitchen learning what works and what doesn’t. I’ve completed advanced courses in food photography and food styling to make sure the images you see accurately represent what you’ll create at home. My work has been featured in regional food publications for bringing restaurant-quality flavors into everyday cooking.
My specific areas of expertise include:
- Creating simplified versions of restaurant favorites for home kitchens
- Developing recipes that work for busy weeknight schedules
- Adapting classic family recipes for modern ingredients and dietary needs
- Teaching beginner-friendly cooking techniques through clear, step-by-step instructions
- Building practical meal prep strategies that fit into real life
My Personal Connection to Food
My love for cooking started in my grandmother’s kitchen in Ohio. Sunday dinners at her house meant the entire family gathered around a table overflowing with homemade pasta, perfectly roasted chicken, and her legendary apple pie. She taught me that the best meals aren’t about complicated techniques or expensive ingredients. They’re about the people you share them with.
For eight years, I worked in corporate marketing. It was stable, but something was missing. I found myself rushing home every evening just to get into the kitchen. Cooking became my creative outlet, my way to decompress, and honestly, the highlight of my day.
I live in Portland, Oregon with my partner Marcus, who serves as my official (and very honest) taste tester. Our kitchen is small but it’s where every single recipe on this site was born. When I’m not cooking, you’ll find me wandering farmers’ markets, testing new kitchen gadgets, reading cookbooks, or hosting monthly dinner parties where my friends become guinea pigs for new recipe ideas.
Why I Created Flavorful Dishes
In 2019, I got tired of searching for recipes online and finding ones that said “quick and easy” but required 20 specialty ingredients and professional skills. I wanted to create something different: a place where people could find genuinely approachable recipes that actually delivered on flavor.
What started as a tiny side project to share recipes with friends turned into something much bigger. By 2021, I left my corporate job to focus on Flavorful Dishes full time. It was terrifying and thrilling all at once, but I knew I wanted to build a space where home cooks felt supported, not intimidated.
My goal has always been to prove that delicious and doable can go together. You don’t need a culinary degree or hours of free time to make food that brings people to the table asking for seconds.

Our Editorial Standards & Commitment to You
How We Create & Test Recipes
Every recipe on Flavorful Dishes goes through a rigorous testing process before it’s published:
- Initial Development – I create the recipe in my own kitchen, adjusting ingredients and techniques until it works perfectly
- Multiple Testing Rounds – Each recipe is made at least three times to ensure consistent, repeatable results
- Documentation – I photograph the process and note common questions or potential issues
- Real World Feedback – After publishing, I incorporate reader feedback and update recipes when needed
Content Updates
I regularly review and update recipes based on:
- Reader questions and feedback
- New ingredient availability
- Improved techniques I’ve learned
- Seasonal variations and substitutions
When significant changes are made to a recipe, I note the update date so you always know you’re working with the current version.
Our Commitment to Transparency
- If a recipe doesn’t work perfectly every time, I won’t publish it
- When I partner with brands or use affiliate links, I disclose it clearly
- I only recommend products and ingredients I actually use in my own kitchen
- Reader questions get honest answers, even when that means admitting something didn’t work
I’m here to help you succeed in your kitchen, not to sell you something you don’t need.
