Ingredients

  • 2 medium Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced into fries
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • cooking oil spray

Equipment

  • air fryer
  • mixing bag or bowl
  • Tongs

Method

  1. In a large sealable bag, combine flour, powdered sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Seal and shake to mix evenly.
  2. Peel apples, remove cores, and slice into 1/2-inch thick fry-shaped sticks.
  3. Add apple slices to the bag. Seal and shake until all pieces are evenly coated.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place apples in a single layer in the basket, shaking off excess flour. Spray generously with cooking oil.
  5. Air fry for 5 minutes, then flip apples and spray any dry spots with oil.
  6. Continue cooking for another 5 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Let cool for 2–3 minutes before serving. Serve warm with caramel or other dipping sauces.

Notes

For best results, peel the apples so the coating sticks properly and cook in batches to avoid steaming. Apple fries crisp up even more as they cool for a few minutes after cooking.
