Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract or vanilla extract
  • 5 Tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • 9×13 inch baking pan
  • Oven
  • Saucepan
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 13×9 inch baking pan with cooking spray.
  2. In a bowl, combine cake mix, eggs, extract, and pie filling. Stir until well mixed and lumps are mostly gone.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread to the edges.
  4. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cake rest while making glaze.
  5. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine butter, milk, and sugar. Stir until melted. Bring to boil and boil 1 minute.
  6. Remove glaze from heat. Stir in chocolate chips until melted and smooth.
  7. Pour glaze over warm cake and spread evenly. Let cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

You can add extra cherry pie filling or chocolate chips on top for more flavor and texture, but it's delicious just as it is. Best served slightly warm or at room temperature.
