A hearty traditional British breakfast featuring fried eggs, sausages, back bacon, baked beans, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, fried bread, and black pudding.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup baked beans (136g)
  • 4 slices bacon (preferably back bacon)
  • 4 pork sausages
  • 6 ounces mushrooms (170g)
  • 2 ripe tomatoes, cut in half
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 slices black pudding
  • 2 slices white bread
  • 4 large eggs
  • lard or cooking oil (as needed)

  • ovenproof dish
  • Saucepan

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 200°F/95°C and place an ovenproof dish inside to keep items warm.
  2. Warm baked beans in a saucepan over medium-low heat.
  3. Cook bacon and sausages in a large frying pan over medium heat until browned. Transfer to warm oven dish.
  4. Using the same pan, cook mushrooms in bacon fat or added oil until browned. Transfer to oven dish.
  5. Season tomato halves with salt and place cut-side down in the pan. Add black pudding slices and cook both for 2 minutes per side. Transfer to oven dish.
  6. If needed, add more fat to the pan. Fry bread slices until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towel.
  7. Fry eggs in the remaining oil, spooning oil over yolks to set. Cook to desired doneness.
  8. Assemble all components on a plate and serve hot with toast or fried bread on the side.

Notes

Use back bacon for authenticity. Frying bread in bacon fat gives the best flavor. Optional: add hash browns or swap black pudding if unavailable. Keep components warm in a low oven as you go.
