Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs carrots, peeled and cut into ½-inch slices
  • 0.25 cup butter (salted or unsalted)
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)

Equipment

  • large skillet or pan
  • Wooden spoon
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • colander

Method

  1. Place sliced carrots in a large skillet or pan. Add 1½ cups of water and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat.
  2. Cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until carrots are tender when pierced with a fork but not mushy. Drain any excess water.
  3. Return drained carrots to the pan. Add butter, brown sugar, and salt. Stir well to coat the carrots evenly.
  4. Cook for 4–5 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the butter and sugar form a glossy glaze coating the carrots.
  5. Sprinkle with chopped parsley if desired. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

For extra shine, stir in an additional tablespoon of butter at the end. You can swap brown sugar for honey or maple syrup for a different sweetness, or add cinnamon, nutmeg, or orange zest for flavor variations. Leftovers reheat well in a skillet over low heat with a touch of butter or water.
