Method
- For the brownie layer: Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Stir in sugar and cocoa powder. Remove from heat and whisk in salt, vanilla, and eggs until smooth. Mix in flour until combined. Set aside.
- For the cookie dough layer: In a stand mixer, cream butter and sugars until light. Add egg and vanilla, mixing well. Add flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder; mix until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a 9x9 baking pan with foil or parchment paper and spray with non-stick spray. Press cookie dough evenly into the bottom of the pan.
- Layer Oreos on top of the cookie dough in a single layer (no overlapping).
- Pour brownie batter evenly over the Oreos, spreading to cover completely.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes. Test with a knife: if clean, remove from oven. Let cool at least 1-2 hours before slicing into squares.
Notes
* For perfectly neat squares, allow brownies to cool for at least 1-2 hours before slicing.
* You can swap the homemade layers for box mixes for an easier version.
* Experiment with different Oreo flavors for fun variations.
* Always bake in a 9x9 non-stick pan for best results.
