Ingredients

  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1/2 cup bacon, cooked and finely minced
  • 1/3 cup green onions, finely sliced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup pecans, toasted and finely chopped
  • 1 stick string cheese (for laces)
  • crackers, pretzels, vegetables, and cured meats for serving

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Plastic wrap
  • serving board
  • cheese spreader

Method

  1. In a large bowl, mix cream cheese, shredded cheddar, bacon, green onions, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and cayenne until smooth and fully combined.
  2. Scoop the mixture onto plastic wrap and shape into an oval football shape. Wrap tightly and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until firm.
  3. Roll the chilled cheese ball in chopped pecans, pressing gently so they adhere evenly.
  4. Arrange the cheese ball on a serving board. Cut string cheese into thin strips and place on top to resemble football laces.
  5. Surround the cheese ball with crackers, pretzels, vegetables, cured meats, nuts, and olives.
  6. Let the board sit at room temperature for 20 minutes before serving for best spreadability.

Notes

The cheese ball can be made up to 3 days in advance. Add the pecan coating and string cheese laces the day of serving for best texture.
